Metadata

The metadata for digitized photographs both describes characteristics of the original photographs and identifies

technical information about the digital images. The descriptive and technical metadata is used to search, display,

store, retrieve, manage and preserve the digital images, particularly within a digital image repository system.  A

number of standards exist to guide the capture and creation of metadata. Some cover only one type of metadata,

others include several types of metadata.
